Congressional Hispanic Caucus Statement Celebrating Veterans Day
WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), the First Vice-Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), issued the following statement celebrating Veterans Day and recognizing the contributions of Latino Veterans:
“On Veterans Day and every day, we must recognize the men and women in uniform who served our nation, including the Hispanic veterans who served with distinction since the first days of the American Revolution. They helped protect our democracy and guarantee freedom and security for all Americans.
“Recent years showed significant increases in the number of Hispanics serving in our military, with Hispanics making up 17 percent of active-duty enlisted service members. This Veterans Day, we recognize this diversity, honoring the service and sacrifice of the nearly 1.5 million Latino veterans who have broken down stereotypes and have paved the way for greater inclusion in American society. Our country’s strength is found in the diversity of our people, who regardless of race, color or creed, believe in freedom of religion, speech, and the right to equal representation and treatment. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus remains committed to ensuring all of our veterans are recognized for their service and commitment to our nation. ”
