Congressional Hispanic Caucus Celebrates National Voter Registration Day
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01), Chairwoman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus issued the following statement celebrating National Voter Registration Day.
“Americans have a sacred responsibility to fully participate in our electoral process and help strengthen our democracy for future generations. Throughout our history, suffragists and civil rights pioneers have fought tirelessly to establish and protect voting rights for all Americans and ensure our vote is our voice.
“At a time when our political discourse is rife with inflammatory anti-immigrant rhetoric and nativist sentiment, the Hispanic community must recognize the important role they play in determining our country’s future. Today, as we celebrate National Voter Registration Day, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is committed to continuing its work to end restrictive voting laws and remove barriers that prevent communities of color from fully participating in our democracy.
“When we participate in our democracy and exercise our civic duty, we ensure that the principles enshrined in our constitution are upheld.”
