Press Release

Washington, DC- Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) released the following statement on Senator Kelly Ayotte's (R-NH) amendment to eliminate the Child Tax Credit for our nation's most vulnerable children.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus sent a letter to Senator Harry Reid and Senator Mitch McConnell expressing opposition to the amendment.  A copy of the letter can be found below.

"Senator Ayotte's amendment and her colleagues who support the measure have demonstrated yet again where Republicans stand on issues affecting the Latino community.

First, Republicans have failed to act on unemployment insurance, a particularly critical issue for the over 2.1 million Latinos struggling to find work.  Secondly, Republicans keep kicking the can down the road when it comes to immigration reform.  Now Senate Republicans are attacking children who were brought to this country through no fault of their own.

These children and families have done nothing to deserve this.  If Senator Ayotte's amendment were enacted, Latino children would be hit the hardest.  The Congressional Hispanic Caucus strongly opposes Senator Ayotte's amendment and calls on Republicans to stop their attacks on the Latino community."
