CHC Chair Calls to Remove Rep. Steve King from Constitution Subcommittee Chairmanship
Washington, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairwoman Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement, calling on Speaker Ryan and Republican leaders to remove Congressman Steve King from his position as Chair of the Constitution and Civil Justice Judiciary Subcommittee:
"Congressman Steve King’s history of racist and xenophobic remarks is unacceptable and does not have a place in the halls of the United States Congress. That is why we call on Speaker Ryan to condemn Mr. King's statements by immediately removing him as Chairman of the Constitution and Civil Justice Judiciary Subcommittee. This will send a strong message that America's strength is built on its diversity and that members of Congress will stand united against bigotry in any form."
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), founded in December 1976, is organized as a Congressional Member organization, governed under the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives. The CHC is dedicated to voicing and advancing, through the legislative process, issues affecting Hispanics in the United States, Puerto Rico and U.S. Territories.
